Brenda Millson

Pre-Kindergarten Teacher

My name is Brenda Millson and I have had the privilege to teach Kindergarten and Pre-K at Madison Central School for the past 22 years. It is my absolute pleasure to work with your young children and to help them learn and grow! I grew up in Canastota and now reside with my family in Oneida. I received an associate's degree in Early Childhood from SUNY Cobleskill, my bachelors degree in Elementary Education from SUNY Potsdam and my Masters degree in Reading from SUNY Cortland. My Philosophy of Education I am an educator who puts the needs of the students first. I believe in a child-centered approach using many different techniques and materials in order to engage children into learning and to keep their interest. I also believe in helping each child grow to their fullest potential by differentiating my instruction. I have high expectations of all of my students while realizing some children may need more time and support to make progress than others. I try to meet the needs of all of my students by using different learning styles, as well as differentiation. I use hands-on materials and give the children real-life experiences when possible. In addition to whole group instruction, I use small group instruction daily to give every child some individual attention during the day in order to meet their educational goals. I also believe in a strong parent/teacher communication to meet the best interests of the children. In addition, I encourage children to be honest, respectful to others and responsible. I teach them to treat others the way they would want to be treated. My goal is to have each child feel important, feel good about themselves and the choices they make and to help them grow intelligently and socially to their fullest potential.
