There is one opportunity for members of our community to speak at this meeting. This occurs early in the agenda for you to comment on agenda items only. There are certain restrictions. For example, we do not permit critical comments directed at particular individuals, by name or title, including members of the Board of Education or our staff. Two other sensitive areas involve the District’s negotiations with employee groups and legal action in which the District is involved. We may limit your comments if you go into those areas.
You should also know that the Board’s response would be to seek clarity in the comments you make. It is customary for the Board to direct the administration to provide information to the Board before the Board takes a position in response to your comments, especially if your comments are about subjects other than those on the agenda.
In general, we limit an individual’s comments to five minutes so that everyone who has an interest in speaking can have the opportunity to express their thoughts.
The Board of Education would like to make it clear that it welcomes comments from the public. However, we ask that you address administrative matters to the Superintendent of Schools prior to coming before the Board. Many matters can and will be resolved if the Superintendent is given the opportunity.
